Using the Saved Filter Manager enables you to create powerful filters in seconds
Go to the Main Menu 4) Sort, Filter or Customise Information > Saved Filter Manager
To create a filter:
1.Click the 'New Filter' button 2.Enter a name for your filter (this should include the criteria you are about to select, e.g. 'SpLD, 16-19') 3.Select criteria from the list of fields in the drop down box, e.g. to find all students with specific learning difficulty support needs, select 'Support Needs'. 4.Select criteria values by highlighting one or more items on the smart select form - e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia, discalculia - using the control key and mouse click.(For Yes/No values, select yes, no or ignore) 5.Click on 'select and return' 6.Once you have selected you criteria, click on 'Browse & Filter Results' to view students meeting the criteria selected. (If you have no students in the filter, try narrowing down your criteria)
When you create a new filter the Include option will be selected by default. The include option will filter and display students who meet the criteria you have selected. You can also choose to exclude the students for whom the criteria applies by clicking on the Exclude button. The criteria text you have chosen will be displayed in red if you have selected an exclude filter.
To show a particular set of filtered students as a default on the Browse Filter Students Form, click on 'Set as my Default Filter'. (This setting can only be later changed in User Preferences).
Tip: When new students are added to SpirALS that meet the criteria of a saved filter, they will automatically be included in the saved filter. While this can be enormously advantageous, there may be instances where a static group of students is required - in these cases, click on the tab '2. Filter Results' and then 'Make group from filtered students' to convert the current filter to a permanent, unchanging group.
