Installing SpirALS

Top  Previous  Next

SpirALS is a 32-bit, multi-user Windows database system, based around several interlinked Microsoft Access databases. It is a complete software solution and the names and locations of files are critical. Please do not assume that 2 files of the same name and the same size have the same contents. We strongly recommend that you do not tamper with the SpirALS files at all except for taking regular security backups.

You do not need to have Microsoft Access installed to run SpirALS. We provide a full runtime version as part of the set up process. As the software comprises a compiled Microsoft Access database in runtime mode, it should run on any PC that is capable of running Microsoft Access.

If you think that you may have a compatibility problem please consult the Microsoft Knowledge base for guidance or contact Midas Systems, who may have experience of the problem.

If you want to share SpirALS information with other users, the shared database is put on the a server (the programs are always installed on each work station.)

If you want the best performance and do not need to share information both the programs and the datafiles can be left on the local hard drive. It is then your responsibility to ensure that back ups are taken of your active data file.

In ALL cases follow the single user / stand alone installation option.

Stand alone installation

Insert the CD and if the setup routine doesn't start automatically, open My Computer or Windows Explorer and double click the Spiralssetup.exe icon.

Network installation

Do not use this option. Follow instructions for stand alone installation.
