The 'Create New File Wizard' (formally the End of Year Wizard) is designed to take you step-by-step through the process of creating a new data file in SpirALS containing selected information from your previous academic year's file.
We strongly recommend updating to the latest version of SpirALS before running this routine (see the Midas Systems Update page)
As information about ALS is collated annually, a new data file is required for each academic year. Naming your data files appropriately (e.g. ALS1011.mdb, ALS1112.mdb) will help you to keep your data files tidy and organised. Archived files can be opened and edited as required.
It is possible to run the File Preparation Wizard on a new file you have created manually, however the 'Create New File Wizard' performs both tasks in one seamless operation and is therefore recommended by Midas Systems to ensure that every stage of the process has been carried out.
Normally, the Create New File Wizard is run once by one user. The entire process should not take more than about 5 minutes and can be run again at any time if required.
Suggested End of Year processes:
If you are ready to enter records in the new file but the DataLink has not yet been set up, enter the learners' names and ID numbers manually; at a later date, general and course information can be updated or added to the file by running DataLink Update Routines.
IMPORTANT: Always ensure you have a back up and/or copy of your master file before performing end of year processes.
